My Students
Welcome! I am a special education teacher who is new to Philadelphia, working at a school that serves elementary-aged students representing historically marginalized communities. I work with students with a variety of disabilities and support needs in grades three through five.
I am eager to provide a safe, playful, and joyful space for children to grow as learners and as members of their community.
My students are learning to grow as risk-takers and are building their engagement and excitement for learning. My goal is to encourage and inspire students to try their best, advocate for what they need, and take active ownership of their learning.
My Project
My classroom is a space that fosters growth for students in grades three to five with a diverse array of educational disabilities. It is crucial that my students have access to high-quality resources that support structure, predictability, organization, and self-advocacy. My students thrive in environments that have predictable routines that promote independence and ownership of their learning. Visual supports help students independently access learned skills and strategies. Hands-on tools allow students to engage deeply in their learning.
Access to high-quality, visual, organizational, and hands-on learning tools will allow my students to take ownership of their learning, become more independent in their classroom space, and meaningfully engage in their education.
The clipboards will give the students flexible seating opportunities and the ability to take their work where they need to in order to best show what they know. My classroom currently does not have a clock, so the wall clock, calendar, and pocket chart will provide students with the ability to access a visual schedule. The pocket chart will display the daily schedule, the clock will display the time and will be hung near that schedule, and the calendar will provide a visual resource for understanding concepts of date and time, which can be challenging for my students. The visual timer will allow students to independently monitor their time when working on independent work or when taking a break. The multiplication chart will act as a visual tool for students working to master their multiplication facts.
As a special educator, it is extraordinarily important to me that my students have the tools and accommodations that they need to find success and grow as independent members of their community. Please help me foster self-advocacy and a love for learning for my students who need it most.
