Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Chemistry to a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come to our school from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country. When my students start reading about all of the chemicals they come into contact with every day, they are surprised, curious, and eager to learn more!
I am always looking for ways to motivate my students in my classroom with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.
My Project
The future is here! By contributing to this project, you will put a robot into our classroom! This Swivl robot and accessories will allow me to audio and video record lessons, inquiry activities, student presentations, and discussions all while the Swivl rotates the camera to follow the presenter.
This technology will allow students to review their class performance and reflect on their learning, allow absent students to watch the lesson and not fall behind in their work, and assist my Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students fill in any missing gaps of learning.
We study many environmental issues in my classroom including water contamination, recycling programs, and landfill's impact on society and the Swivl will allow us to review our discussions in student teacher conferences, peer groups, as well as in teacher groups during lesson study. My science teachers will be able to observe my lesson and help me pinpoint which students need more support and the best type of support to give them.
As an arts-focused school, my students take a whopping 8 classes a semester and are often absent from my class to attend the vast number of field trips and seminar experiences available to them. By utilizing this technology, I will be able to post videos of my lessons for students who are absent or want to review the lesson again so they do not fall behind.
Lastly, our school is embracing a DHH program next year, and this technology will support my DHH students to be able to hear the lesson multiple times so they pick up on missing information. I'm really excited at the opportunities available with this technology to support my students! Thank you for your donation!
