This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to tinker, create, and bring their ideas to life in our STEM Center! This time, we’re diving into the world of amigurumi—the adorable art of crocheting small stuffed creatures. With just some yarn, a hook, and a little patience, students will learn a new hands-on skill that blends creativity, problem-solving, and STEM thinking. Plus, they’ll get to take home their own squishy, handmade creations! This idea came from a current 5th grader who shared her love for crocheting and wanted to share her knowledge with other students so they could create their own amigurumi creatures!!

To make this happen, we need yarn in fun colors, crochet hooks, stuffing, safety eyes, and beginner-friendly patterns.

These simple supplies will let students experiment with design, learn about symmetry and patterns, and even explore how handmade crafts can be used for storytelling or entrepreneurship. Amigurumi is an awesome way to build confidence, develop fine motor skills, and spark imagination—all while having a blast!

With your help, our students will get the chance to create, learn, and maybe even start a lifelong hobby. Whether they make tiny animals, quirky monsters, or their own unique designs, this project will bring a whole new level of creativity to our Makerspace.
