American Orff-Schulwerk Conference

I need to attend the 2017 American Orff-Schulwerk National Professional Development Conference in order to grow as a teacher and best help my students grow as musicians.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lawrence's classroom raised $393

This project is fully funded

My Students

My students are full of creative energy. They love coming to music class twice a week to sing, play instruments, and dance. Many of them perform at least once a year for our school community and families.

Our school's Orff-Schulwerk based curriculum is known for its highly creative, hands-on approach to music education.

All students are involved in speaking, singing, creating, improvising, moving and playing instruments.

Orff-Schulwerk develops musical skills through imitation, experimentation and personal expression. My students begin with what they naturally do best: play! My student-centered classroom builds musical skills and knowledge through playing with concepts and discovering music through speech, songs, and drama. During the time they spend in my classroom, they become confident and competent musicians and composers.

My Project

Imagine a classroom where children learn by speaking, singing, dancing, and creating together. Orff-Schulwerk is a way to teach music that encourages children to be playful, creative, and focused. Orff teachers carefully guide students through activities that lead children to discover musical concept and skills, collaborate and communicate with each other, use non-verbal expressions of emotion, and develop leadership, creativity and critical thinking.

Attending the American Orff-Schulwerk Association's National Professional Development Conference will further develop my knowledge and skills as an Orff-Schulwerk teacher.

I will spend three full days attending and participating in presentations about how singing, movement, creative expression, improvising, creating music and playing instruments can help me give my young students a solid music education. It will give me new ideas to use with my students righty away, and it will show me how to use prior knowledge to take my students even farther down the path of musical learning. I will have the opportunity to learn about new, innovative techniques other teachers have used in their classrooms and will have the chance to talk with hundreds of other teachers about how they use the Orff-Schulwerk approach. Everything that I learn at this conference will directly benefit my students now and for years to come.
