This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” – Phillip Pullman
My students are from an inner city and love to express themselves through art and technology!
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and our district currently lacks many of the technological advances of the 21st century. Many students do not have access to technology at home. I love finding new ways to encourage and incorporate life skills and the arts through my language arts curriculum.
My Project
My students are generally kind and compassionate. These Fire tablets will allow the students to learn how to meditate with particular apps like "mediation, breathe, settle your glitter, aura, and go noodle." The meditation will take place in class when a student needs re-direction, to center themselves, or to prepare for the day if need be. I believe that meditation is a life skill that benefits the mind and body tremendously.
The tablets will also serve as e-readers for the students to be able to read whatever book they'd like without the fear of being judged by what they're reading.
Students will not be concerned about reading on their grade level if they are not equivalent to their classmates, the tablet will serve as an anonymous book. The tablet will also serve as ways for my students to learn social emotional skills by blogging, creating cartoons about their readings, and learning how to manage their feelings, mainly through meditation.
According to research, one of the greatest indicators of success in adulthood is the ability to relate to others.
