Amazing Wiggle Bots!

My Project

I like to do something special with my students for the final project of their gifted and talented career in our district. Our gifted and talented students are very motivated and hardworking students who crave a challenge. Unfortunately the program is underfunded. The wiggle bots are the perfect way to challenge them while giving them some freedom and creativity.

Wiggle Bots are a great introduction to motors and circuits as well as providing an artistic opportunity.

After we do the electricity lab that is provided by teacher geek, the creator of wiggle bots, I instruct them on the different ways they can move. Then we let the students take the reigns and create challenges to try and solve. In the past we have done drawing challenges, walking challenges, swimming challenges, and climbing challenges, as well as changing the surface they wiggle on. When the challenges are complete we debrief to make sure learn from our mistakes and discuss what did and did not work. We also celebrate their hard work and creativity. When the unit is complete, we allows the students to bring their wiggle bots home. My favorite part is the emails I receive from students over the summer when they have figured out a new way to use the materials.
