Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 3 and 4 year old preschoolers with mild to severe disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome and many other developmental delays.

Rita Pierson once said, “Every Child deserves a Champion- an adult who understands the power of connection, who will not give up on them and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.” I strive to be a champion for each my students and more.

The school they attend is in an impoverished neighborhood. There is little beauty to see on their way to school. Many of the apartments and houses are run down and graffiti is everywhere including on the school walls some mornings. I champion for my students daily because they need and deserve a classroom that is clean, inviting and has material that will help them become the best they can be.

My Project

Art is very important in preschool because it encourages creativity. I understand the power of art and I want my students to do a lot of art projects, but it is hard because art supplies are costly. I would like colorful paper, felt, buttons, craft sticks, and other arts and crafts supplies to use for their projects. They will use the construction paper for making shape collages, animals and winter holiday crafts. I also intend for them to use the supplies to decorate different art projects such as picture frames, animal masks and deep dark sea creatures. My students have so much fun making art projects for the holidays. Their eyes shine like a bright stars when they make hearts for Valentine's Day, shamrocks for St. Patrick's day, and flags for flag day. For some of my students this will be their first time in school and I can't wait for them to discover and to connect to their inner artist. Thank you so much for reading my proposal.
