Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share, and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish-speaking homes and live in small dwellings with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way.
Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have.
A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 4th year having a STEAM Magnet program on-site, and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the materials we need to support my students' learning goals and styles.
My Project
These Osmo kits and games will help take our centers to the next level. A lot of our students thrive off the use of technology in our classroom and these will add another dimension to our learning. Students will learn how to use the Osmos and then their families will come learn from them. The games will help in Math, English Language Arts, Coding and Art.
We will be hosting a "Technology Night" in our classroom where we invite families to come to try out all of our awesome technology and robotics based centers.
Students will have the opportunity to show their families what they know and give them a glimpse into what we do in our classroom.
