Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Are you a channel surfer? History buff? If so, you know the amazing amount of history shows available on History Channel, Discovery, Military Channel, PBS, and many more. BUT there is no classroom access to them...UNTIL NOW. This technology turns the home DVR into our 24/7 class video library.
Our students are in one of the poorest inner-city neighborhoods in California.
Many are English Language Learners. History themed videos and documentaries are an excellent way for them to reinforce and enhance the textbook content in a way that bridges language gaps. This project will exponentially increase their access to videos that match daily classroom content.
My Project
This technology is SO cool. With Slingbox, any and every show I record from an array of channels at home is available to our classroom at all times via the internet, as it accesses my home TV and DVR. Imagine reading about a WWII battle, then reinforcing the data and concepts by instantly seeing and hearing the action projected in front of you. Now my students will do just that. And with the DVD burner and portable laptop, I can record what is shown in class and make it accessible to students who were absent, low-performers to take home and review, students in tutoring and Saturday school, and even to individualize content after diagnostic student reviews.
This project will help bring history alive for students who need it most, and will greatly help those who often fall between the cracks receive the support and reinforcement they need to catch up with peers.
