My classroom is full of amazing 1st grade students who want to learn. These kiddos come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and are embarking on a new year. Our Title I school fosters the growth and education of families from a low socioeconomic status, including almost 50% refugees. They deserve access to these amazing learning tools and are beyond grateful for everything they are given. Please help me make this year one for the books.
My Project
1st graders will dive into learning using a variety of fun math and science materials. Fun games like addition/subtraction bingo make math facts fun. Bingo dobbers allow students to fill in 10s frames as we count and add larger numbers. Dry erase markers allow students to practice turbo math facts daily in order to increase their speed and accuracy! Decks of cards allow students to play math games like war and practice addition facts as well!
Cajon Valley provides many amazing apps on their chromebooks to engage learners.
These apps, like ST Math, code.org and iReady will be enhanced with a class set of headphones. While these programs are great, little hands tend to break headphones regularly!
Geo-boards are a fun way for students to create and explore shapes, angles, sides, area and perimeter. After working with geo-boards, students can build and create with straw building blocks, bristle blocks and magnatiles. Magnetic wands allow students to explore the fun of magnets! Math boards and fact family boards help students learn concepts in a hands on way!
