This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We were fired up to create ceramic works of art and now we need to help them shine!

We are a Title I, bilingual, inner-city school in Connecticut.

100% of our students receive free/reduced breakfast and lunch. Our administration and staff are great supporters of the arts and encourage our students to develop their skills in my classroom. Our students have won artist competitions from grades Kindergarten through grade 8, promoting fire safety awareness and the importance of keeping the earth clean. Their artwork has been put on display in offices and galleries all across Connecticut.

My Project

Recently, through Donor's Choose, we received firing clay and our students created pendents which were used to raise funds for our end of the year activities and trips. The students had an amazing time creating these pendents! Our kindergarten students made turtles which we just fired and they have been asking for us to make more pieces of art out of the clay. These glazes will add a beautiful touch to their wonderful creations. We are limited to the color and availability of our glazes because we haven't been able to do clay projects until recently. The glazes we have at the moment are limited, old and running out! The glaze colors we are asking for are vibrant and exciting and will bring a new life to my students' artwork!

These glazes will expose my students to an art form that they are not familiar with.

For many of my students, this is their first experience working with clay, but not the last! Through our recent projects my students have learned that they can create art a source of income and possibly a career! My students have learned to pay it forward by using their art to help our school community and these glazes will help continue this positive trend!
