I teach 25 pretty awesome second-grade scholars and I love each and every one of them.
Every one of these students is special and unique in their own way. Most speak fluent Spanish and are beginning to learn the English language. Some come from homes where a grandparent is their primary caretaker. A couple of scholars belong to our nutrition club, a program where they are sent home with a backpack of food to help feed their families over the weekend. But, while they have their own challenges, every single family sends their child to school prepared to learn every day. I take my job very seriously and want nothing but the best for my scholars. While I may have high expectations of behavior and student work, all of my scholars know I care about each one of them.
My Project
Imagine walking into my art club at the end of a long, rigorous school day. You picture 10 third through fifth grade scholars listening to music, talking, laughing, and even encouraging each other. This is exactly what I want to provide in this club. After 30 years of teaching, some things consistently ring true and one of those is that a lot is expected of our scholars during this pandemic. They come to school to give their best despite the back grounds in which they come. I want to provide a safe environment to decompress, take some risks and have the opportunity to socialize. Knowing that "How To" drawing books are super popular with kids of all ages, I want to give them this opportunity.
These materials will be used during a fun after school club.
Scholars will come together in this club which will allow themselves to end the day on a positive note. Thank you for taking the time to read and support this project.
