This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love students who love reading! After school I meet weekly with an incredible group of advanced seventh grade girls, and we read, write, and discuss books. These girls live in a tough neighborhood but they excel and I want to continue supporting and challenging them.
The book club students attend an inner-city middle school where most students receive free lunch.
Many of their classmates read below grade level, but these students read above grade level. They have interesting opinions on what they read, and they read quickly.
My Project
I am requesting sets of book club books for us to read together. Some of these books are meant to be a challenge for kids their age and others are set in the city in which they live, so we can combine reading the books with enriching field trips. I am also requesting a document camera so we can share passages and writing easily with each other.
I want this book club to keep these high-achieving, ambitious students on a path to future success.
Your support of the work we are doing together can help push these students. Please help introduce them to wonderful books, and help them to be an example in their community.
