Amazing Adjectives

My students need paint, paper, pencils and multicultural books so we can read and paint our way around the world and use adjectives to tell our story.

My Students

Do you remember picking up a paint brush and being able to paint a picture of something fabulous? Well some of my students have not had the opportunity to pick up a paint brush and paint a picture of anything. I want my students to experience the joy of painting.

My students are a diverse group of caring, hardworking kids.

I have Latino's, African Americans, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese students that are all at school to work hard no matter what is happening at home. Most of my students go home, watch T.V. and don't ever go outside and visit new places that are just around the corner. My students come from a low-income area, most kids are on free lunches. Although some come from a tough home life they come to school everyday eager to learn and do something new and creative. My students love being able to draw with the materials that we have (which consists little of colored pencils, crayons and markers). If my students where able to touch paint, explore with it and then start making art work with the paint I know that they would be ecstatic!

My Project

The materials that I have requested will be used throughout the year. Since my students come from very diverse backgrounds, as a class we are traveling around the world and exploring at least 9 different countries (if we can do more we will!). As we are exploring the countries I want to look at famous artist that come from each country. Each artist has a different technique and they paint different pictures. Once we have explored and read about painters, and explored the culture of the country I want my students to be able to paint freely on what they got out of the information that was presented. I want to see what they are seeing and to show this I want my students to be able to paint a picture! As for the books I have requested throughout the year we will be reading them as a whole class. These books will help students connect their cultures with other students, and also have students gain a better of where other students come from.

This project will allow students to experience the world around them.

They will be learning about different countries and be able to paint a picture of how they see the world. Students will also be writing about their paintings, using adjectives to add description to their writing. By using paints students can mix colors, make the paper look smooth or even blotchy. There are many artistic features paint can bring out on paper more so then crayons and markers can.
