My students need 40 copies of "Copper Sun" and a study guide to capture and sustain their reading throughout a novel as they engage in the reading process and orally share their thoughts.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Not reading is just as bad as not being able to read.
As a product of one of the 3rd largest school district in the nation, and a member of the academic and despairingly diverse community in which my school is located, I often observe my students struggling to make wise and healthy decisions that promote positive social interactions in and out of school.
My Project
Because this society has become so diverse, teaching tolerance is deeply embedded in my unit planning. In doing this, my hope is that my students gain a deeper appreciation of other cultures, connect the past to their current experiences and make changes in their communities that will positively impact their future. I am asking for these books because my students need multiple opportunities and resources to ensure that this is successful.
Acquiring a classroom set of "Copper Sun" will allow my students to interact often with their peers and learn from one another in a safe and nurturing environment in school and the community.
