My Students
My students are the most inspiring children you will ever meet. They come from some of the roughest backgrounds (being at a Title I school) and yet they come in each day with smiles on their faces and ready to learn. They are so eager to learn new things and collaborate with their peers.
Some of my students are on their own when it comes to learning at home because their parents do not speak English well, or not at all.
If they do speak English, most of their parents work in jobs that do not allow them to spend the time helping their children with school work. This makes their time in the classroom crucial, especially learning core subjects like reading and math. It stresses for me the importance of teaching them that they can dream and go far in life.
My Project
Last year for Christmas I got each of my students their own blanket. What came next I never expected. Some cuddled together on the floor, some cried because they had never had their own blanket, some kept just saying Thank You over and over. Whatever their reaction was...it was priceless. I would love to do that again for this year's group.
Some of my students have never had their own blanket because they share a bed with one or more siblings.
I wanted to give them a gift that they could cuddle with and take home and know they were always loved especially by me.
