My students have been identified with language based disabilities, are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and have extreme difficulties with executive functioning skills. They are hard-working and focused learners, striving to succeed at the middle school level. It is not always easy for them due to their challenges. Our school is inner city, in a low income area, where many assistive materials are not readily available.
My students have excellent attendance, demonstrate responsibility and diligence when attempting academic tasks, and have already set future goals.
I want to provide them with a safe environment they are able to utilize daily, feel calm and secure, while developing and strengthening their academic skills to be successful.
My Project
Providing my middle school students options in seating will allow them to focus their energy on learning and their overall academic success. These alternative seating options will create a more welcoming and comfortable environment for achievement as well as improving their overall health and wellness.
Wiggle cushions, fidget bands and wobble stools will give my active students something to do with their bodies while they concentrate on independent activities.
With this, my students will be happier, more confident and might even enjoy learning more.
