Alternative Seating Keeps Kids Focused

My Students

My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. My students are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to the country. My students take their goal of learning the English language and succeeding academically very seriously.

Along with going to school full time many of my students are apart of academic after school programs and work full time until the wee hours of the morning.

Even though their days are jammed packed they do their best to remain focused and strive to meet their academic goals.

My Project

My students need alternative seating, such as bean bags, in the classroom that will help them relax, re-focus and take risks with their work. Our school has a very large ESL population. As these students navigate their day they are tackling the regular high school academic curriculum along with taking extra ESL classes in order to obtain a hold on the English language.

Being held to the same NYS Regents standards as native English speakers and learning the language at the same time is difficult and exhausting.

It can sometimes be very overwhelming and cause them to shut down. Alternative seating in the classroom will allow them to relax and refocus their attention which will enable them to gain success. My students will have a chance to unwind and learn at the same time.
