This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Our students are economically and ethnically diverse. Our population consists of mostly Hispanic and Chinese backgrounds. We have a population of students from shelters as well as the surrounding projects.
The school includes students with special needs as well as ESL students in need of extra support.
As a community, we strive to keep a safe and secure environment for all our students from Pre-k through 5th grade. Thank you!
My Project
As our students' levels are greatly varied, we use many differentiated strategies including guided reading groups, shared writing groups, literacy centers, etc. Instead of a traditional classroom setting, these strategies require alternative seating options.
Alternative seating helps our students stay focused and engaged throughout learning.
It allows them to choose where to work, whom to work with and how to work. With a comfortable learning environment, they are able to become more concentrated and more productive.
The Surf Portable Lap Desks will support our students to have a proper writing position in shared writing groups. The Go Anywhere Chairs will create cozy reading spots for our guided reading groups. Alternative seating will transform our students' learning experience, and your donation will make it happen!
