Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are special because they have an enormous amount of potential to beat the norms that are expected of them coming from South Los Angeles. These students are funny, risk takers, open-minded, street smart, and desire to be successful. Many of my students are English learners who come from families that have immigrated to this great country to better themselves and make sacrifices for the sake of their children's education. The neighborhood they live in is of lower SES, in which most people support their families as blue collar workers. Despite their struggles, our families believe in our school and support their student by assuring their great attendance, attending school events, and working along side teachers.
Being apart of an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, my students are growing as global students and will need all resources available without any constraints of being apart of a fast-pace society.
Our wonderful charter school includes an international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
My Project
Students all learn in different ways. They need flexibility in the classroom to support the varying styles of learning. The requested area rug will support learning because it will allow a different area to learn from as opposed to sitting traditionally at desks. Students can interact and have close proximity to one another and to the teacher. Interaction is an important component to learning and growing and an area rug will do just that. Students can discuss topics and learn from one another.
This alternate learning style allows students to sit and turn when needed to listen to a read aloud story, discuss parts of a book, and also share their thoughts.
This is a nice break from sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
