My students need a computer work station to practice early learning concepts in phonics and mathematics.

My Students
Flash cards just do not cut it when you are four years old! Especially when you are a four year old with Autism. Technology has been a game changer in helping my students learn about phonics and early mathematics, but our class is far from being up to date.
Our class is a Pre-K for students between the ages of 3-5 with special needs.
Their disabilities differ, but most are placed on the Autism spectrum. We are located on an elementary school campus and are the only Pre-K in the district.
My students have their days, planned full of interventions, assessments and therapy sessions. They are all such little troopers that face great difficulties daily. When they come to school, I want them to be excited and happy. School should be challenging, but there's no reason it can't also be fun!
Despite their disabilities, the students in my classroom are just like any other preschooler. They love coming to school and exploring their environment in hands-on ways. We love music, dancing, and art (especially the messy kind!), but our favorite time of the day is story time! If you were to visit our classroom, you would probably be introduced to our favorite book, "Pete the Cat," within the first five minutes of your arrival (probably sooner!).
My Project
The students in my class LOVE technology. They adore going to speech and occupational therapy because they get to use an iPad, but our classroom is lacking in the technology department. We currently have a "teacher computer" that the district provided and is not technically for student use; however, because the benefits of using technology with students with autism is so great, I allow them to use it. The computer is a desktop, and can not be moved from the grown up sized teacher desk to a more appropriate table, this makes using the computer somewhat awkward for my preschoolers. I have requested a laptop, so that it can be placed in more appropriate places for children. I have also requested an adapted mouse with only one button so that it is more child friendly. Speakers have also been requested because laptops often have subpar sound systems, and preschool classrooms can become noisy. Headphones have also been requested so that students can use the computer even during quiet times.
The use of computers with Autistic students helps to improve attention and behavior, therefore, improving the quality of learning for students.
Your donation will help to provide interactive and exciting lessons to help expand my students math and phonics knowledge. Therefore, helping to prepare them for success in future schooling.
