This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been through a lot in their short amount of time on this planet. They are mostly Title I and lower socioeconomic status, but really love learning about the world around them. I have found that they love learning through projects and other activities, and most want to travel when they are older to see the places we have learned about in history class.
My Project
My students learn best when the lessons are tangible and hands on. These materials will help them to visualize and create their own Roman mosaics. Students will see examples of different mosaics and how the Romans used them to advertise, inform, and celebrate. After our lesson, students will have the opportunity to plan out what they want to do- either create their own version based on a mosaic, or use them as a springboard to make an original piece.
My students look forward to these Ancient Civilization lessons and are actively engaged throughout as they anticipate and soak up the information like a sponge!
