Allowing Students to Feel the Force of Great Tools
Help me give my students multiple force and acceleration sensors so they can actively explore a host of math and science concepts for themselves rather than merely doing worksheets or (on a good day) watching a demonstration.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students struggle with with motivation in Algebra because they have a hard time seeing the connections to the world around them.
These force sensor probes will allow me to bring many of the math concepts to life for the students in Algebra 1 and 2.
The students will get to actively apply math skills by combining them with the same science concepts they are exploring in the classroom literally next door.
My goal is to have groups of students using these force and acceleration sensors in a variety of math labs to learn about both the linear and periodic relationships around them. Interacting with the physical world and seeing the math play out in front of them in real time will allow students to learn the math in a deep and memorable way. These are students who are used to doing little more than get by with worksheets and math textbooks. Please help me as I look to get these young ladies and gentlemen excited and interested in learning again. Tasting success in math through hands-on activities has the potential to gradually change part of the culture of learning at our rural school of low-performing students.
