My Students
History----boring? It shouldn't be! History is one complex play with intricate scenes of action, drama, comedy, and excitement. Many fifth graders shudder when they hear it's time for History because they don't have the proper resources to help history come alive! You can help!
I teach in a low-income, high poverty area that serves many English language learners.
Living in poverty provides many obstacles for my students, but when they come to school they know it is a safe environment where they can be anything they want to be--all they need is a quality education.
My students have a burning desire to learn and explore everything around them, but I do not always have the resources necessary to meet these students' needs. My class this year has a love of drama and acting. Anytime I can get them engaged in their learning by acting something out, role-playing, or performing a reader's theater, they learn the best!
My Project
Bring history to life! The simulations provided in the books and resource kits put history in terms and situations that fifth graders can understand. The scenes are so vividly set up that the students will be able to see and feel just how people did during the Age of Exploration all the way to the American Revolution.
My students will be able to take on the characters of heroic, historic individuals that made a difference in the United States and in the world. By actually reenacting these situations my students will have a greater understanding of history and there will be long-term understanding!
Donations to this project will allow my students to bring history to life as they live and explore the past just as historical figures did hundreds of years ago.
Students will interact with the content in a meaningful manner and grapple with the complexities of history all while having fun learning!
