My Project
As part of occupational therapy, students learn handwriting and word formation skills. This facilitates access to their education, as these skills are required for almost every subject.
TV Teacher is a video-modeling handwriting program we incorporate, which students respond very positively to.
TV Teacher has a song in which the tripod pencil grasp is called the "alligator chop". To reinforce this strategy by visually reminding students of the effective pencil grasp, alligator games have been helpful. The Gator Golf would be a great addition to this toolkit, as the alligator would visually cue students to grasp the pencil, marker, or crayon with the "alligator fingers" effective grasp. The golf game would also strengthen students' fine-motor and upper extremity control and dexterity for table-top activities at school.
Additionally, the word and sentence building games will allow students to become familiar with letter and word combinations for more legible and understandable writing content.
This, in combination with self-regulation visual cues and a weighted lap pad for self-calming, will allow students to participate at their best in their school occupations. These resources will reflect a holistic occupational therapy intervention where the students' physical and emotional school needs are met.
