Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students have requested to learn to play the Ukulele throughout all of last year. Many of my music students come from families with rich cultural ties to music and have grown up hearing parents, aunts and uncles playing the Ukulele but aren’t confident on their own. My students love to create their own music and are gaining the technical skills to do so.
My students are creative and passionate, many of them have loved to improvise and create their own music in down time during class.
These Ukuleles would provide another opportunity for students to create music in a way that feel authentic to themselves. It would allow students to learn and solidify their rhythm, tempo and other basic music skills. This is an integral part of music education and opens the door for more creativity when making music.
My students are amazing. They work so hard and are often not afforded privileges like purchasing instruments or taking lessons, so this would be a way I can allow them to learn and practice during the school year.
