Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the ones who need to work the hardest. As a speech and language pathologist in an elementary school, all of my students have special needs. They are the most wonderful, animated and creative bunch that you will see! However, they struggle with many aspects of language and learning- reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary...etc. These things make school very hard for them but they overcome these challenges everyday!
In addition to working hard to overcome challenges in their development and learning, my students also come from disadvantaged homes.
Most of my students receive some form of government assistance and many are in foster care or homeless shelters. Each day, school is a consistent and constant force in their lives.
My Project
My students desperately need a way to work on their expressive language and social skills! These materials will enable me to create effective lessons centered around improving narrative language skills, vocabulary, and learning how to be good friends. The program visualizing and verbalizing will enable me to work on a variety of skills within the expressive language domain. The social skills materials will then enable me to then help my students use these newfound skills in appropriate ways to make friends.
The ability to express ourselves and do so in an appropriate way is one that we often take for granted.
For my students, these skills are of the most difficult. These materials will allow me to help them improve these skills in real, concrete ways!
