We are an award-winning school. We are diamonds in the rough. Our class is located in a unique area in the city of Detroit. Our students are bright and diverse. We are a multicultural class, and we celebrate diversity in everything we do. We are a Title One school. Over ninety percent of our student population receive free or reduced-price lunches. Despite their hardships, my students love school. They show up to class sometimes hungry, sometimes lacking supplies, but always eager to learn! They are extremely appreciative of what they do have and they show it by working hard every day.
My Project
My wonderful students love to read and write. Representation matters. I love seeing my students' faces light up when they open a book with a beautiful title and book cover with characters that look like them. Unfortunately, many of these books are expensive which makes this experience difficult to obtain. Your donation will help build a multicultural library inside our classroom. Our classroom is bright and colorful and these new books will be a welcomed edition. Our goal is to make sure all students are able to show growth and pass our state's standardized test. Learning to read for fun will help us achieve our goal and allow the students to know there are authors who look like them. I know my students will appreciate any help you can give us!
