My Students
90% of the students at our school on Nellis AFB are children of military service men and women. Their parents are not the only ones who serve our country. These kids serve right along side their loved ones in uniform. They sacrifice so much and though it is hard, they proudly do it. I have seen the tears when their mom or dad deploys and I have seen the excitement as students have welcomed their loved one back from a deployment. Military life is tough but these kids are so strong and deserve the best!
My Project
My classroom was recently blessed with some new ukuleles. Because brand new ukuleles can easily get out of tune, my students will need to tune up often. I can use this disadvantage to MY advantage by teaching students to quickly tune their ukuleles with a tuner, thus saving me SO much time. If we were to go without tuners, I would have to tune each ukulele by ear at the beginning of class, assessments, and performances. By placing a tuner in the students' hands, they will be able to take control of the process and learn to do it with minimal guidance or without my instruction.
