This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so lucky to work in the school that I do. Last year I was asked to start a Green Team, and when I reached out to children to see if they were interested to join I was overwhelmed by the responses. We built our Green Team with their futures in mind. Our Green Team is devoted to promoting sustainability in our community. Last year our hard working students started a small school garden. This year they would like to expand the garden. They are excited and driven to put in the work, but we lack the funds to buy soil. I am so lucky to have students who are dedicated to the mission of the green team. They give up their recess time once a week to care for the garden and to spread the message of sustainability around the school. My fourth and fifth graders are inspiring our younger kids each and every day. The future is theirs, and they are empowering other children to take care of the planet that they call home. Help them build a better community garden to truly see what sustainability is really about!

My Project

We are expanding our school garden and we need soil! We currently have a small garden, but would like to double it’s size so we can grow some vegetables! Our school is a Title I school that does not have money to spare for the project. Please help us buy soil so we can make our garden better. Our future goal is to have our school garden become a community garden, which can be enjoyed by many. In an urban area where green spaces are limited, this small garden patch will bring natural beauty. We would like to give back to our community which has given so much to us!
