All the Worlds a Stage: Except When It's a Blackbox.
Help me give my students the confidence to perform on stage! Giving them the opportunity to be heard, to learn the craft of stage makeup and the ability to tell stories on stage again.

My Students
My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders from a rural area in Utah! They are passionate about exploring all that the world of theater has to offer. When we embarked on this adventure most thought theater was just acting and directing. Now we are unlocking all that theater has to offer. Collaborating with other classes to show how theater combines all the arts to make a production go. These students are learning how to write scripts, act, direct and produce shows. These skills will help them in high school as well as in their future.
This group of students are the first group back for our school to put on a full production.
They will be learning how to act on stage with costumes, props and sets. The opportunity was taken away a couple years ago when covid closed our doors and then last year with masks and social distance keeping us out of the theaters. We pushed through using masks and still taught all of the basics we could. I am so proud of the 8th graders who were in 6th grade that year of covid and the 7th graders who pushed through the theaters being closed.
My Project
These students were 4th, 5th and 6th graders when schools shut down. They lost out on the social interactions and the ability to learn how to speak in public. They sat in front of microphones on a computer and talked to a screen. They could mute themselves whenever they felt anxious or like they couldn't do it. Now after two years they have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Learning how to overcome the fear of being on stage and the anxiety of talking in public. This production will be huge for their confidence. Following directions, learning how to do makeup and build scenes, but most of all how to take the art of play and produce magic on stage.
