"All the world's a stage" and one of the biggest challenges facing students is building confidence to face the world's audience. Help our students see themselves on film and watch their confidence soar!
My first year Drama students are shy and sometimes inhibited; many need self-confidence, and they have great potential!
Their ages range from 14 to 18. Sometimes they are afraid to get onstage, and sometimes I can't keep them away from it. They get excited easily, and the thought of seeing themselves on camera, although at first daunting, turns into excitement and gives them a boost in confidence. My 2nd, 3rd & 4th year Drama students are talented and determined! They love to try new things like writing witty repertoire and performing for the camera. Their confidence grows. My students attend a school that has a limited budget for arts education and are in great need of technology! We are one of seven high schools in our district. We have an ever-increasing API and the potential to become a "Distinguished" school. The equipment in our theatre is antiquated and needs to move into the new century. Every student needs an opportunity for self-expression through film and television.
My Project
Lights, Camera, Action! Without a camera the action is sometimes left in the dark. A camcorder would allow the students to create and improve skills in so many areas! Like a Picasso without a paintbrush, an actor (or would be director) without a camera has limited creativity. A camcorder will allow the students to evaluate their own performances, in groups and as individuals. This will enable them to understand themselves at a more in depth level. They will be able to see themselves in a new light. They will also create pieces of art on film; film work will allow the students to create short pieces/public service announcements or "commercials" to show to local schools and communities on topics ranging from anti-bullying to the needs of arts education. A camcorder would allow us to promote a theatre education (which creates a well-rounded individual). Students will learn about themselves and what impacts they have on their community.
Oscar Wilde, a classic playwright, "regards the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." Theatre students will inspire others to create, to imagine, and to learn about the world we live in through the media they create.
Your donation will allow us to purchase the needed equipment to get their messages out to others. It will not just impact our school, but also our community of learners.
