This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a Title I charter school in Florida, which means the large majority of my students come from low-income homes where education may at times take a back seat to other "priorities", such as helping out around the house while parents are working multiple jobs. However, that does not stop my students from trying their best and giving it their all in the classroom. Many of them take advantage of resources we are able to offer in school, such as free tutoring, to help them better grasp the content as a whole.
My students want to succeed, and I believe that speaks volumes about their character.
They never cease to amaze me when they are adamant about perfecting a piece of writing, trying yet again to comprehend that difficult piece of text, breaking their head to work out a math problem, or just working on their public speaking and presentation skills. My students deserve a chance, and I will always do everything I possibly can to ensure they are given that chance.
My Project
Working in a Title I school, many of our students have limited resources for their day-to-day schooling, especially those students who speak English as a second language. Those resources diminish even more as we approach the end of the school year when state-mandated testing takes place. This project can help us provide students with the opportunity of only having to focus on skills and content needed to show what they worked hard on all year. If we are able to provide students with pencils and Spanish-English dictionaries for testing, all they will have to worry about it trying their best on the test!
