My Students
Two of the biggest challenges that teachers face today are getting their students interested in reading and teaching them about science. With Earth Matters, students can be exposed to the riveting world of science, and practice reading an engaging, high-level nonfiction book, all in one! A class set of these books will help my students.
The best thing about our students is they have the intelligence, energy, drive, and passion to make real change in the future.
That is why this project is so important.
Above all else, our school values turning learning into action. Great test scores and high achievement are nice, but what we are really looking for is the opportunity to turn our learning into change and improvement for our community and our world.
Students today face an uncertain future that is to be shaped largely by the innovations and advancements that their generation is able to make. With scholars that are squarely focused on climbing the mountain to college, we are always cultivating an activist mindset in our students so that they always focus on solving the difficult problems we face.
My Project
Our world is at a critical juncture, where important decisions regarding our environment need to be made. We need students who have a deep knowledge of ecology and a world view that allows them to make informed decisions about what is best for the most possible people.
With the book, "Earth Matters", students can start to develop the critical background knowledge that it will take to become the type of leaders that our world needs so badly. I will be able to use this text in conjunction with a curriculum of world history to show them how the decisions we make need to be global decisions.
In my nonfiction studies class, the goal is not to simply better our reading comprehension, or to learn arcane dates and names in isolation, the goal is to create a group of empowered scholars that feel ownership of their future.
With these lofty goals, we need the best possible resources to show our students the importance of what they are learning and the connections that they must make looking into the future.
