"Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them."
-Steve Jobs.
Our students are wonderful, good and smart - they have wonderful ideas and just need the right tools!
Our school is for students with special needs who, because of severe emotional and behavioral issues, have not been able to learn successfully at their regular schools.
Our school provides for them a safe place where they can make mistakes, learn coping skills and problem-solving strategies while continuing to be exposed to the district-wide academic curriculum.
Instead of being suspended or removed from the learning environment for extended parts of the day, our goal is to keep students in class. Students are given multiple opportunities to practice the learned skills and strategies that will help them cope with the stressful situations that made it impossible for them to remain in class at their home schools. Technology is exceedingly motivating!
My Project
The students will use these headphones to add audio to their multimedia projects. Instead of using the robot voices on VOKI, they can use their own! Using Microsoft PhotoStory they can now add their own voice to their digital stories instead of merely using subtitles! Having the microphones is going to to open up all kinds of new worlds and dimensions when it comes to the Web 2.0 tools that they use. I also happen to know that they will just feel cool and professional wearing them with the microphone down - and that will lift them to new heights with their creations.
These headphones will be SUCH a treat!
We have used the dollar ear buds that we cannot share and do not last! You know, sometimes our students are not given the top-of-the-line equipment to use - far from it. These headphones may not be state-of-the art but, the students will feel like real professionals with these headphones. With the attached microphones they will be able to easily add audio to their multimedia creations. It will elevate their work and their esteem.
