Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the Bay Area in California (East of San Francisco) in an area heavily impacted with immigration and Socially Disadvantage Students. I have a wonderful group of Kindergartners this year in my DLI class (Dual Language Immersion) that have no previous experience in schooling.
My 25 students constitute a very lively and talkative group who is eager to learn.
They love to learn from each other through games and pair activities. They compensate for their lack of academic experience with enthusiasm and curiosity.
My students are very visual as it would be expected from a 21st Century child and their attention always detour to hands-on colorful print.
My Project
My district has manage to give every single student a computer to work at home during the Distance Learning. There are many programs that are very attractive for my Kindergartners and that will thrive their learning but... they will need to learn how to use a pencil, color a picture, sign their name and use a pair of scissors whiteout having the feeling that they are going tom perform some sort of self surgery.
Every three or four weeks, I will assemble a new set of papers, little books, art supplies, etc and in a big bag will be waiting for my students to be collected at the school.
I have to repeat this process frequently because I have to be tailoring my instruction to my students needs. There will be activities that would need more repetition and others that we would fly over them like in a jet. Fresh new bags will diminish the chances of contamination.
