Help me give my students access to 21st century technology to complete work, create global connections, and learn application of digital tools into everyday life.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Fred Whaples's classroom raised $513
This project is fully funded
My Students
While others call my students disadvantaged, poor, Title 1, learning challenged, low performing, low income and all around less fortunate, I call them World Changers! Howard Schultz, born in the projects, only to rise above all expectations to become the founder and CEO of Starbucks. Oprah Winfrey though born into extreme poverty of Mississippi would become the highest paid and one of the most influential people of the modern era. Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, born in Brooklyn, but immediately placed up for adoption, dropped out of college after his adoptive mother died, and held odd jobs for eight years.
These impoverished people refused the label society gave them and became more, reached higher, and succeeded beyond measure and so WILL MY STUDENTS!
Someone believed in these world changers and I know you want to be one of those believers too! Let's invest in these students lives so we can unleash the next global food crave, or media giant, or tech company, or even beyond!
My Project
The ultimate goal of this project is to move students from consumers to creators! Future leaders and world changers, will be the developers and programmers of the software the consumer utilizes each day. It is imperative that students of ALL social economic status are provided the knowledge and 21st Century Skills to compete in days ahead.
These tablets will be used to move students from consumer to creator!
This project was birthed when a student came to me in August and wondered why there wasn't an app that could read the microchip in their animals neck when lost or missing. "Why do we have to take the animal to the vet? Why can't our phones do that?" Being from a lower income neighborhood the student was concerned with transporting the animal to the veterinarian since city bus was the primary transport. The student was concerned that a family may never again see their beloved animal simply because the neighbors couldn't afford the time or the transport. That being said, if an app (like bar code reader and Red Laser) can be developed why can't their be a Microchip reader app. His questions spurred me to begin research, take classes, and learn how to move myself from consumer to creator. I want this student's creativity to be ignited! I want this creator set free to create. He needs a device that we can work on this idea and change the world! While we are actively working together on this app I know their are more students ready to move from consumer to creator, I just need the devices to get the fire started! Won't you help?
More than a third of students from low‑income households
