My very creative and enthusiastic class is called "The Second Grade All-Stars", because we love baseball! Our classroom has a baseball theme - our table groups are named after bases (1st base, 2nd base, etc.), and our class meeting area is called the "All-Star Dugout".
My All-Star 2nd grade students attend an amazing school right in the heart of the largest city in Washington State!
60% of my students speak two or more languages. My school is extremely unique - its design is called "open concept" - there are no walls between the classroom teaching spaces (just low bookshelves)!
What makes this design so innovative is that it supports close collaboration and team teaching among the staff, and the students get to easily work with their classmates who are right next door in the neighboring classroom!
My Project
My All-Star Washington State 2nd grade students are excited, active learners who LOVE Writer's Workshop! Their favorite things to do during Writer's Workshop are sketch and then write "small moments" about events that have happened in their "real lives".
Because of the "open concept" design of our school, there are no walls between the classrooms. This means that sometimes there are distractions for the students (some students more than others). Having a privacy screen at each desk will enable the students to focus and concentrate more readily as they are doing their writing.
Another bonus is that the students will be able to use the privacy screens when they are taking tests and assessments, and not feel like their neighbors are "peeking" at their answers.
The privacy screens will allow my students to increase their focus and concentration during Writer's Workshop, and take tests and assessments to the best of their ability.
