All-Star Kids Want To Be In The Know With Scholastic News!

My students need a class subscription for 28 students to the Scholastic News Magazine for Second Graders.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Trudnowski's classroom raised $208

My Students

My enthusiastic and excited 2nd graders love to read, especially nonfiction texts about science, animals, and current events! Unfortunately, many of my students don't have access at home to nonfiction books, newspapers, or magazines. A subscription to Scholastic News is exactly what my class needs!

My very creative and enthusiastic class is called "The Second Grade All-Stars", because we love baseball!

Our classroom has a baseball theme - our table groups are named after bases (1st base, 2nd base, etc.), and our class meeting area is called the "All-Star Dugout". My students love to read fiction and non-fiction books and magazines, and they love to complete book reports. Last year we read and completed book reports for 903 books! There are over a dozen languages spoken in my class, and most of my students receive free/reduced lunch. We are always so grateful for any support given to our class, and we LOVE to write thank you notes!

My Project

I am requesting a classroom subscription for 28 students to Scholastic News Magazine! The subscription to Scholastic News (I remember how much I enjoyed the Scholastic News when I was in the fifth grade!) will provide each of my second graders with a weekly non-fiction magazine that will be used in class. The students will take it home afterward to read and then talk about with their families. Scholastic News magazine articles about Social Studies, Science, and current events will also be the perfect compliment to my Readers Workshop lessons on non-fiction texts!

My school has sustained significant budget cuts over the past 3 years, yet our enrollment has dramatically increased by over 100 students.

Lots of children and not enough money means that the purchase of "extras" such as classroom magazines are not a priority. The majority of my students are receiving free/reduced lunch. Many of my students do not have access at their homes to non-fiction materials such as Scholastic News. Scholastic News will be the perfect "home-school" connection each week!
