I am currently a kindergarten teacher, and I teach all subjects. I teach in an inner city school in Far Rockaway, Queens, where 95% of the students receive free lunch.
As a kindergarten teacher I deal with germs everyday. I do everything that is humanly possible to keep my students in a clean healthy environment. I sweep our rug on a daily basis but I do not think it is clean enough.
My students are always on the rug. In the morning we are on the rug for copying homework and our morning routine. During the day we are on the rug for shared reading, independent reading and guided reading. At times students eat on the rug. As I have indicated I sweep the rug everyday but without a vacuum I know it is not completely clean. The school supplies us with books, tables, and chairs but not a vacuum to clean the rug. Due to the fact that we use the rug so much I think vacuuming will help prevent students from getting germs.
