Autism itself is not the enemy-the barriers including the sensory problems, are the enemy. These things are not part of who the child is-they are barriers to who the child is meant to be. Be part of making a difference for these children.
My students attend a Title 1 school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day.
My classroom is a self contained special education class made up of children with autism and children with emotional disabilities. It is my job to fulfill their individual needs and make learning fun. They are sweet and motivated to learn but do not have access to the appropriate resources/materials in order to make the learning meaningful. These students live in poverty and have limited or no support at home. Fund this project and I will begin to have materials to support the sensory and educational needs of my students.
My Project
Autism is all around usÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂæ we can help people with autism enter our world if we encourage them to let us into theirs. Our school is located in New York City in a high-poverty area and this is only the second year that we have Kindergarten in our building. We do not have materials that can give children with autism and emotional disabilities the sensory breaks that they so desperately need. The materials in this project will allow these students to participate in the classroom and learn while providing the sensory input they crave. ANY materials we receive through DonorsChoose are a blessing as it will help me ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂreachÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàmy students.
"I am only one, but still I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something; and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do something that I can do" Helen Keller
And this is the reason that I have created this project to help my students...it is the something I can do right now to help them. Please help me help them!
