I work at a K-8 school, in a rural county in Florida. Over 80% of the students in our county come from low-income families which makes us a Title I county. Unfortunately, on October 10th, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Michael. Many homes were either damaged or destroyed. Some students were displaced from the hurricane and/or lost everything that belonged to them. It has put a huge financial strain on many residents in our community. Now still, 10 months later, many are still trying to recover.
The students in my third grade classroom consists of 8-10 year olds with varying learning abilities and styles.
These students have been through so much that I want to ensure that they are comfortable and having fun while they work.
My Project
Please support this project for my third grade classroom by helping me provide my students with a variety of STEM manipulatives and resources to help reinforce our daily lessons during center time. Learning comes easy when it is done through hands-on experiences and play.
We use centers in our classroom everyday.
We have centers for literacy, science and math. The Osmo can be used for all subjects. In the same way, the math games and Hot Dots will create a fun learning environment while practices math skills. All of our skills will get a big boost from the use of this technology in our centers.
By helping my students get supplies to boost up our centers, you are helping them stay engaged, learn, and have fun in the process. We use differentiated centers to meet students at their level. Centers provide a time of discovery and are a perfect way to practice new learning with different materials that they can touch and manipulate. These items will be a great addition to our classroom.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
