My Students
My students are the entirety of our school. I serve all the students at our school in the discipline of science. My students come to me ready to learn, explore, and experiment to become critical thinkers.
Part of my school is Title I, which means they come from high poverty situations and may not have access to materials and resources at home.
Part of my school is Magnet, which means their parents may not live close by but have chosen to send their child here because of the opportunities and experiences they can be a part of at our school.
My Project
My project is two-fold. My students need a toaster oven to engage with chemical changes of substances in order to experience the addition of heat as an agent of chemical change. We will use the oven with items such as changing a raw egg to a chemically changed cooked egg, clay being changed from a soft, pliable material into a hardened substance, turning bread into toast and raw ingredients into cake.
Having real life, hands-on experiences will take the learning we do in Science Lab to the next level!
My students also need an additional Chromebook to aid in their study of digital literacy. We use the Chromebook in many ways in Science class, from researching and reviewing to presentations and projects.
