Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As someone who has coached volleyball before, I have seen how students have cared more about school as well as the people around them by being a part of a team. Not only were they excited about the sport, but they were also committed to keeping their grades up and working hard in their classes so that they could stay on the team.

I want my students to see why it's important to work with others, and to learn how to work with others, even if they have never worked together before.

The students should have more opportunities to be part of a team and a club where they can bond with others and work towards a common goal. When they work together and grow together, the students become more confident in themselves and more encouraging to the people around them. I want to spread this spirit to more students on campus. Our official volleyball team is limited to 15 people, however with this project, we can give more students the chance to learn and play this sport.

At our school, students come from lower socio-economic families, and many do not have the chance to learn new sports and gain new hobbies outside of school. My students all come from a lower socio-economic background and yet they are still coming to school everyday and working hard for their futures. I want to ensure that they are equipped with the tools and skills that they will need when they start their independent adult lives. Communication and teamwork is one of these skills, and team sports gives them the chance to learn this skill while having fun with something new.
