Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in our classroom consists of engaging lessons with most of our day being spent in small group rotating stations. It is our goal to grow two grade levels in mathematics and reading this year!
We are an inner city, urban community and are proud to be Reid Ravens.
We are currently in Priority status and working towards full accreditation! Last year we began implementing the Leader in Me program which has been a school wide initiative.
I have a number of English Language Learner (ELL) students with a very wide range of reading levels, from first through seventh-grade, who truly enjoy reading for fun and for learning. Mathematics is a huge struggle for my fourth-graders. The rigor dramatically increases in this grade, and the number of fourth-grade mathematics objectives is high. We love learning the history of our country and of Virginia, from Jamestown all the way through the Civil Rights Movement.
My Project
My students have consistently expressed the desire to have tablets incorporated into their routine. My students need 3 tablets to incorporate technology, reading, and educational applications into their daily small group instruction. Almost all of my students lack access to technology in their everyday lives. I have looked at various tablets, throughout the past three years, searching for the perfect fit for my fourth-graders.
The Amazon Kids Edition tablets allow me to choose the exact content and amount of time my students spend on a lesson or activity. My students will benefit in all content areas as Amazon offers thousands of books and educational applications. The tablets allow me to set educational goals for each student. My students will use these tablets during our rotating station time, indoor recess, and for special occasions such as rewarding hard and dedicated work and exceptional behavior.
The integration of technology into public schools is invaluable to a well-rounded and meaningful education in today's world.
Incorporating the tablets will aide my ELL students and address the range of abilities in my group. Our school district has purchased many educational computer programs which are accessible by tablet. Having these tablets will allow each of my 23 exceptional students access to this technology for at least 20 minutes each day this year, helping them to reach their goals!
