Our classroom uses our laptops computers 3-4 times per week and we love it! Our classroom is busy with activity as students move around the class between computers, math stations, small groups, and independent work. All of this activity can be distracting to students on the computers!
While many of my students come from humble beginnings, they are excited about school and eager to learn.
My students are hard working and, like many students today, they love technology. Technology is engaging and can provide an avenue for problem solving like nothing else.
My school is a Title I STEM Middle School, meaning that we are dedicated to developing the ideas of science, technology, engineering, and math within our students. We want them to see how these ideas can help them to change the world. I am eager to contribute to our STEM philosophy and vision through this project.
My Project
My school is fortunate enough to have enough desktop and laptop computers to have a one-to-one ratio for our students. The only problem that I encounter is not having headphones to eliminate distractions and keep the students focused. I especially notice that our struggling students are sometimes embarrassed to have the volume to their computer turned on because others will hear what they are working on. The headphones I am requesting will eliminate that problem and keep them focused on their work and building their math skills.
This project will improve our classroom environment and allow for more focused interactions with the computer programs that challenge and extend student thinking.
We use our laptops for online programs, math blogging, writing reflections on learning, taking surveys, and using virtual manipulatives. The headphones will improve the quality of work that is able to be produced by eliminating distractions and helping to maintain focus on the task at hand.
