All Children Excel in ELL - Korean Library

My Korean English Language Learner students need 22 books that are culturally relevant and reading level appropriate.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Green's classroom raised $398

This project is fully funded

What is an English Language Learner Program without books to inspire? I teach kindergarten in the morning and I am the ELL teacher and coordinator for our school in the afternoons. We have a growing Korean ELL population. We are a low-income K-5 elementary school.

We recently held a meeting for the parents of our English Language Learner population and one of the main concerns was to acquire more literature that is culturally relevant for the students and that is accessible to all. My goal as an educator is to create a learning environment that is culturally aware and more sensitive. We don't have the necessary funding to purchase the books that are needed to create this experience for the students.

We have complied a list of Korean books that are a mixture of levels, genre and language that are culturally relevant. This will not only empower our Korean population, but will also allow for teachers to introduce the culture and open discussion. When a child feels important and that they are able to discuss and teach other students - they feel successful and become successful. These books also have the power to break stereo-types and enlighten.

You can help make it possible for our school to become more culturally aware and diverse, at the same time, helping ELL students to succeed. Thank you.
