My Students
I work with students with special needs in a high school setting in the upstate of South Carolina. My students require many modifications and adaptations in instruction and curriculum in order to allow them to show what they know and to stay engaged in their learning.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn” (Benjamin Franklin).
My students vary in their individual needs, but all have the same desire to succeed and achieve to their fullest potential; they are bright, eager to learn, and hard-working! They struggle with basic academic, vocational, behavioral, and social skills but they all show great determination and perseverance in reaching their goals! They do best with engaging, hands-on learning activities that allow them to create using their individual strengths.
My Project
Hygiene and safety are two of the most important skills students in my Food Service class need in order to be successful as they learn the basics of cooking and kitchen safety, as well as preparing different recipes. My goal is to ensure that they are becoming better prepared for independence and success in life beyond the classroom.
With Kids Cook Real Food, they will be able to say "I did it...All By Myself!" Becoming more independent will help students with social-distancing and allow them to become more aware of safety needs as they navigate through our commercial kitchen.
My students will also be able to create their own Resources and Favorite Recipes Notebook to keep and use in their home environments. How proud they will be... So, Let's Get Cooking!
