My Students
My 30 male students are comical, yet eager to learn and all around FABULOUS fourth graders! Each day they amaze me with the ability to absorb and apply knowledge! Daily we are engaged in deep student-centered discussions over various genres! We LOVE to READ!
All my students come to school ready to learn...and have FUN doing it!
Diversity can be seen in and outside of the classroom. I have many students that benefit from our English Language Learners (ELL) program. For the most part, many of these students only benefit from hearing the spoken English language at school. As a whole, the school has over 50% of the student population qualify for free or reduced lunch. Conversely, a large number of parent volunteers can be seen daily in the classrooms and halls of the school. These parent volunteers not only encourage their own students but classmates as well! With substantial diversity within the school population, current state testing ranked our school in the 80th percentile! This proves that students can learn through a multitude of diversities! It is the drive and endurance of my students that make me want to teach!
My Project
What fourth grade boy would want an ALL BOY book study?!?! I know 30 that would love the change to dive into diversity and friendship with their fourth grade peers.
Daily diversity can be seen in the classroom and school hallways, while building new friendships needs to be explored with our ever changing student population!
This all boy book study using books such as Save Me a Seat will not only bring diversity to the forefront, but also building friendships with new students. Students often rely on a few friends without branching to other students they may be more similar than they appear.
My hope is that as students come and go in out student population that my male students will be more apt to not only welcome, but develop lasting friendships!
