Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In kindergarten, being on the floor and creating a space where there is a clean, comfortable, and exciting area will enhance engagement and foster their excitement for learning. We will use our rug for things like circle time, movement breaks, flexible seating arrangements, and activities requiring movement. Multiple languages are present in the classroom and as a teacher I want to foster a culturally responsive environment where all students feel safe and welcome. As students build a community in the classroom, they experience collaboration at the rug with language. Building experiences where students are using their languages will help maintain a broader understanding of the world.
It’s important to support diverse learners, with this rug I can create an immersive and engaging environment.
Students will be able to have tactile experiences by sitting, standing, and playing on the rug. The interactive rug also provides visual aids for students’ learning needs. Students learning English as a second language can be supported with the rug building a bridge between their native languages and English. Developing communication skills can help build strong foundations for student success.
